New Gill Guardians Content!

By Jasmin Graham, Safina Center Junior Fellow

New Gill Guardians content from Minorities in Shark Sciences will be coming online June 1st! We have a new activity book available for elementary schoolers which features color pages to help students understand basic anatomy of sharks and how to identify them, matching activities to help students learn what sharks eat, a maze that models shark movements and much more. In addition to the elementary school content, we’ve also added an activity for middle schoolers to learn how to navigate a cool database called FishBase which they can use to learn all about sharks and their relatives. For high schoolers, we’ve added a worksheet to help them read and understand scientific papers in the Frontiers for Young Minds journal, a scientific journal dedicated to making scientific research accessible to kids and teenagers.

Lastly, we’ve created a field guide for people to learn about the sharks found in Florida. It features a key to help people identify various species of sharks and rays, detailed scientific illustrations of each animal, facts about the animals and guides to ensure safe interactions between sharks and humans. We are excited to roll out all of this new content. Those of you using this content should be on the look out for even more content we will be rolling out this fall including virtual field trips and content translated to Portuguese.
