Facts alone can’t save the world.
Hearts can. Hearts must.
We’re working to make sure that hearts do.
Dear Friend:
Wild things, wild places, and the next-generation talent who will devote themselves to keeping the world alive—that’s what we are about. We create ideas, and we launch careers. We’re different.
The Safina Center uniquely occupies the creative end of the conservation and environmental not-for-profit spectrum. Through our fellows program, we support and propel writers, artists, and filmmakers. Some are world-recognized. But perhaps more importantly, our Junior Fellows are—with your help—launching professional careers that will expand the circle into coming decades.
For more than twenty years we’ve worked from the understanding that creating information by itself isn’t enough. We create transformation. Our transformative works are award-winning books, films, visual art, sound art, and spoken word.
Does it work? Well, yes! Not to brag (OK, actually, to brag), we have won MacArthur and Pulitzer Prizes, Pew and Guggenheim Fellowships, James Beard awards, The National Academies Communication Award, and various medals. Our books are New York Times bestsellers, our television shows air nationally, and we are often guests on NPR and the TED Radio Hour. The New York Times, CNN, and The Guardian seek our opinions. We get noticed. We are heard.
Using scientific understanding but making emotional connections, we make people feel what is at stake. And we call people to act. We’re everywhere from the front lines working with Indigenous communities to teaching at major universities. Our mission is: Making the case for life on Earth.
Our work changes people’s view of this miraculous living planet. And that changes things on the ground, in the sea, and in the air.
The details are in our 2024 Report https://www.safinacenter.org/annual-report But—we can’t do it unless you’re with us. Please consider supporting our work at The Safina Center.
Best Wishes for the Holidays and the year ahead! And—thank you.
