Safina Center Creative Affiliate Paul Winter’s 25th annual Summer Solstice Celebration will be live streamed on the morning of Saturday, June 20th , 2020, at 4:30 a.m, EST. Traditionally, for the past 24 years, this event has been held at New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine. But because the Cathedral is still closed, due to the pandemic, the concert will take place in the hills of northwest Connecticut, in Paul’s barn, which has a cathedral-like loft.

Joining Paul’s soprano sax will be Steve Gorn on bansuri (the traditional flute of India), and Jeff Boratko, playing bassoon and percussion, along with the recorded participation of members of the Paul Winter Consort including Eugene Friesen, cello; Jeff Holmes, keyboards; Eliot Wadopian, bass, as well as Ray Nagem playing the organ of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

“The birds begin to sing at 4:30 a.m. this time of year, and we like to start with them.” Paul Winter says, “We invite people to listen-in, and then together we can all welcome the first sunrise of summer, on the longest day of the year.”

This year, June 20th happens to be the actual day of the summer solstice.
