Wahoo produce many eggs, grow quickly, and reach sexual maturity at a young age, making them resilient to fishing pressure. No formal population assessments have been completed in any region, so their current population sizes are not known.

The U.S. Atlantic handline, pole-and-line and troll fisheries for Wahoo catch few non-target species. In addition, these fishing methods have a minimal impact on bottom ocean habitats.
