Sickle Pomfret – Hawaii, Longline
Sickle Pomfret are found in tropical waters throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans but little information on their life history or abundance is available. The information that does exist, suggests Sickle Pomfret grow quickly during the first year of life and live for 8 years.
While not targeted specifically, Sickle Pomfret are caught in pelagic longline fisheries in Hawaiian waters. Pelagic longlines have minimal impacts on bottom ocean habitat but can accidentally capture high numbers of vulnerable species, such as sea birds, sea turtles, and sharks. In the U.S. Hawaii fishery, measures are in place to reduce bycatch of these vulnerable species.
