Salmon, Coho (Sake, Ikura) – British Columbia (except South Coast)
Coho Salmon are a fast-growing fish found throughout the North Pacific. After spending 18 months at sea, adult Coho Salmon return to the stream in which they hatched to spawn and subsequently die.
Coho Salmon is moderately abundant in most regions of British Columbia (except on the South Coast), and several management regulations are in place to control fishing. Coho Salmon are caught by troll, gillnet, and purse seine. These fisheries have a low impact on bottom habitats, but there is some bycatch of salmon from depleted populations.
