Lobster, California Spiny – Mexico These fish contain levels of mercury or PCBs that may pose a health risk to adults and children.

The California Spiny Lobster is found along the western coast of North America from Monterey, California to Manzanillo, Mexico. In Mexico, Spiny Lobster are at a healthy abundance and fishing levels on this species are appropriate.

Fishermen use traps to catch Spiny Lobster. There is some concern about bycatch of seabirds, particularly cormorants. There is little information to determine whether the fishery is having an impact on cormorant populations but these populations are considered healthy.

The Mexico Spiny Lobster fishery is well-managed.
